Conversa Live — Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Conversa Live is a deaf-accessibility app for iPhone and iPad that transcribes live speech into large, color-coded chat bubbles in real time. All processing happens entirely on your device — no audio, transcripts, or personal data are ever sent to our servers.

2. Data We Collect

Nothing. Conversa Live does not collect analytics, crash reports, usage data, or any personally identifiable information. No account is required to use the app.

3. Microphone & Speech Recognition

The microphone is used solely for live speech-to-text captioning while the app is open and actively listening. Speech recognition is performed on-device using Apple's SFSpeechRecognizer and WhisperKit (a local implementation of OpenAI's Whisper model). Speaker diarization and identification also run entirely on-device using locally stored voice embeddings. Live Microphone Audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. The profanity and slur censor runs on-device as well.

4. iCloud Sync (Opt-In)

iCloud sync is off by default. If you choose to enable it, enrolled people's names, photos, voice samples, and speaker embeddings are stored in your own private CloudKit database. This data is never visible to the developer or any third party. You can disable iCloud sync at any time in Settings, which stops any further syncing. End-to-end encryption of your iCloud data depends on whether you have Apple's Advanced Data Protection enabled on your account.

5. Model Downloads

Conversa Live runs all speech recognition, speaker identification, and translation on your device using machine-learning models that are downloaded once and then stored locally.

The first time you start listening, Conversa Live downloads the models that power its core features: Apple's English speech-recognition model (from Apple) and the speaker-identification models (from HuggingFace) that tell speakers apart and color-code their bubbles.

All models are stored locally on your device and are not re-downloaded during normal use. (In rare cases iOS may remove a cached model to free up space, in which case it is fetched again the next time it's needed.) No personal data — no audio, transcripts, names, photos, or voice samples — is ever sent during these downloads.

6. Children's Privacy

Conversa Live is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
